choreographic research between dance and care
(creation 2025/26)
“Acalentos” is a choreographic research which starts from the desire to address, through dance, the theme of care: care towards others, towards a community, towards oneself.
Through experiments around ROCKING (“like rocking a baby”), the project is an invitation to access relationship, touch, intimacy, memory and vulnerability. This research will lead to the creation of a dance piece imagined for the stage, but also for unconventional spaces. To nourish this creative process, it is planned public engagement activities and scientific support in collaboration with facilitators and professionals of the health and social sectors. Through practical workshops, interviews, voice recordings and sharing of personal stories, these activities invite us to revisit rocking in adults and to feed the bond between artists and caregivers, patients, residents and researchers. Strongly related to mothering and to the parents-baby relationship, the gesture of rocking is a way to revisit childhood. However, in this project, we are curious about working rocking in adults. We wonder how a revival of this gesture of care through dance could allow adults to access a state of vulnerability, trust in others and shared intimacy. Rocking presupposes a relationship. Recreating this moment means agreeing to be taken care of, to be touched, to be looked at very closely, to let go one's weight onto the other. As choreographers, we are interested in the effects that rocking can provoke in the internal tissues of the body, in the neuromotor system and how it can regenerate and create other body-mind states, releasing new gestures and movements. |
The dance piece proposed by two choreographers is thought to be a trio which will develop scores of rocking around situations of mutual aid, support, complicity, vulnerability and despair.
The audience, included in the performance space, is invited to move freely, to enter and leave the performance, to act or to share experiences, to rock or to let themselves be rocked. We visualise using the stage in a non-conventional way (placing audience on stage), or using other non-conventional spaces such as public spaces or spaces where care is expected and necessary (for example: hospitals, health and rehabilitation homes, retirement homes, places to accommodate refugees). The sound will be composed of rocking stories, sounds and voices collected during the sessions of public engagement by the participation of caregivers and patients of the social-medical sector.
